SPILANTHES oleraceaSummer to Early Fall3352

This unusual tender perennial (Zone 10?)is a member of the Compositae family native to the tropics of Africa and South America and grown as an annual in the north. Above edible bronze-coloured foliage, eye-catching golden yellow flowers with deep burgundy-red eyes on long, pendulous stems. Wonderful in containers.
The leaves and flowers have a taste and properties similar to coneflower (Echinacea purpurea). It stimulates the flow of saliva which cleanses the mouth, tones the gums, and enhances immune function.
